This is a once a month (every third Tuesday) show that is designed as a listening room for world class songwriters, many with hit songs, long touring/recording associations with music legends ETC... to play their original music in an intimate setting. NO COVER BUT DONATIONS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURED AND GO TO THE SONGWRITERS. Project Barley serves excellent Food (Gourmet Pizza, wings, sandwiches, salads), wine, and award winning beer. PHIL PARLAPIANO

Multi-Instrumentalist, songwriter, A list session music maker, Phil Parlapiano is a versatile musician whose musical journey has followed several unique directions. Born in New York City and raised by his musical parents, Phil learned to play the piano at the age of 4 from his talented grandmother, who also played mandolin and guitar. After playing the organ at his church, the road called to him leaving to tour with Joan Baez.

Parlapiano followed his musical path as a founding member of The Brothers Figaro. Signed to Geffen Records after a bidding war, the seminal folk rock duo recorded their critically acclaimed album, Gypsy Beat, published by BMG. After opening for John Haitt, Billy Bragg and Jill Souble, the Brothers called it quits but continued playing together backing folk legend, John Prine. This led Phil to a nine year stint with Prine, touring and recording CD’s including the Grammy award winning releases The Missing Years and Fair and Square as well as co-writing “Leave the Lights On” for the CD Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings. After this Phil was asked to play on the Rod Stewart’s pivotal Unplugged and Seated album, after which followed a one and a half year touring stint with the rock icon. Phil was drafted into the smooth jazz world by saxophonist, Dave Koz, which culminated in co-writing a Chanukah song, “Eight Candles,” featured on the Grammy nominated December Makes Me Feel This Way. His songs have been featured in TV shows Friday Night Lights, Heros, Alias, Felicity and most recently Once Upon a Time.

Parlapiano continues to work in the studio and live as a first call accordionist and keyboardist with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Carlene Carter, Lucinda Williams, Social Distortion, Elvis Costello, Tracy Chapman, The Dixie Chicks, Jonas Brothers, Iron Butterfly and others. You could see him in the TV shows Happily Divorced, The New Girl, Transparent and Lethal Weapon. Movie goers saw Parlapiano in the blockbuster film The Titanic as an accordion player during the memorable scene in the lower decks when Kate and Leo are dancing.

LYNN COULTER

Lynn Coulter is a dynamic, versatile drummer and vocalist. He is equally adept in studio and live situations. His energy is felt by all. He has recorded at most of the major studios in the Los Angeles area. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Lynn came to California by way of Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee. He has recorded or toured with Leon Russell, Carole King, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Smokey Robinson, the Chi-Lites, Dan Peek (formally of the group “America”) and most recently Rita Coolidge. He has also worked with Mary Wells, Leslie Gore, Lou Christe, The Drifters, The Coasters, Bo Diddly, Sonny Bono, David Cassidy, Rose Maddox, Rosie Flores, Peter Rivera (Rare Earth), Johnny Rivers, Little Anthony, Peter Noone, the Shirelles, the Vandellas, and the Marveletts. He has also toured with the off-Broadway production of “Smokey Joe’s Café” featuring Rita Coolidge and Gary U.S. Bonds. Lynn works with multiple bands and artists throughout CA and beyond. He is also a great singer and songwriter!! And plays an array of creative percussive instruments that makes him as fun to watch as he is to listen to!

DOUG HAMBLIN

Award-winning guitarist Doug Hamblin grew up in Daly City, outside of San Francisco. By the time he was ten, music was coming at him from all directions: the Beatles/Stones/ British Invasion, Cream and Hendrix he heard on the radio, Sly Stone down the street, and the black R&B and soul records his cousins loved.

In the late 70s there was a minor music revival taking place- punk rock and new wave - and Doug found himself as guitarist in the power pop band Jo Allen and The Shapes, a regional smash act who recorded several sides for Howie Klein's 415 Records during the height of the "New Wave". Loud, frenetic and full of catchy pop melodies, the Shapes burned fast and bright, headlining punk spots like the Mabuhay Gardens and The Palms, and sharing bills with the likes of Robert Palmer, (who had a hit with Allen's "Jealous"), Tommy Tutone, Annie Lennox, the GoGos and The Ramones.

In 1983 Doug relocated to a funky flat on Rampart Street in New Orleans, and worked on an Albert King-inspired barehanded approach to the guitar. He jammed on his front steps with a down-on-his-luck- at-the-time Mighty Sam McClain, and put together a ragtag group that played "every dive in town-and there were a lot of em"- from the RoseTatoo to Jimmy's, and eventually opened for the Neville Bros in the Quarter.

Back in SF in 1986 Doug met vocalist Jan Fanucci. Their first single Doug produced, "Like It This Way" became a local hit, and they were soon signed to independent Blueprint Records. The debut LP, Doug Hamblin- Jan Fanucci featured some of the Bay Area's prominent blues players keyboardist Jimmy Pugh, (Robert Cray) longtime Van Morrison bassist David Hayes; and stellar guitarist Amos Garrett. The LP received 5 star raves in the Gavin Report and CMJ (College Music Journal) and was an instant hit in various markets in the U.S.and Europe, both in the blues stations and on commercial rock radio (see reviews). Doug and Jan, already a strong local draw, began touring with the strength of solid radio play, selling out San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, Seattle's Backstage and Aspen's Paradise club. The LP's first single, "Let's Make Love", finally peaked at #6 on Billboard Magazine's Top Ten for radio airplay in the Pacific Northwest, and earned Doug a Bammy nomination for Blues Artist of the Year (which was eventually won by Neil Young and the Blue Notes...)

Doug continued touring the US and Canada, as a headliner and on bills with blues giants such as Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, Dr. John and many others. Doug's first self-produced solo release, 1991's American Dreamer was a soulful mix of blues, New Orleans-style R&B and rock that furthered Doug's reputation as a master guitarist, gritty singer and eclectic songwriter... that CD's track 'Nobody's Fool 'was later covered twice, by Alligator Records artists SAFFIRE: THE UPPITY BLUES WOMEN on their BROADCASTING CD, and (in a nine minute version) by soul singer Sidney Ellis (Ask a Woman Who Knows)

Relocating to LA in 1990 Doug formed BLUES DE LUXE with veteran R & B shouter Southside Johnny Lyon. (from the ASBURY JUKES) in 1991. They headlined top LA clubs like the Palomino and Ventura Theater, and recorded several songs (including Charles Brown's classic "Please Come Home for Christmas” for the soundtrack to the blockbuster film HOME ALONE.

Doug began writing and touring with Johnny Rivers (co-writing "Closer To You" featured on LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS).

In 1998 Doug joined the Stephen Stills Band, touring nationally. That band eventually served as house band for the 4th Annual Blues Foundation Lifetime Achievement Awards at the House of Blues in LA, where Doug served as Music Director and backed legends Ruth Brown, Bobby Blue, Bland and Ray Charles.

Doug has also been with Bruce Willis since 1993 in The Accelerators; touring worldwide, from the Korean DMZ to Jakarta, Seoul to San Antonio; and making music for various Willis projects including THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, RED2 and others. In 2002 the band toured the US with Ivan Neville, and in 2003 did a USO tour of the Middle East and performed what was said to be the the first rock concert ever in Iraq.
Doug has also written and produced blues/gospel belter Karen Kraft (soloist with the First AME Church) and New Zealand songwriter Helen Henderson. Doug has scored tv and film, and worked on John Prine's Grammy-nominated Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings, which was produced by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' bassist HOWIE EPSTEIN.

Doug formed MASON SOUTH with Lynn Coulter, Phil Parlapiano, Michael Murphy and in 2003 released the EP 3 Rooms. The second LP Orphan Songs was released in 2021.

JODI SIEGEL

Jodi Siegel, originally from Chicago, IL, is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. Over the years Jodi has opened for and or shared the stage with many respected musicians including: Albert King, Robben Ford, Robert Cray, J.D. Souther, David Lindley, Fred Tacket and Paul Barrere (Little Feat) and countless others. Her songs have been recorded by Maria Muldaur, Marcia Ball, Tommy Ridgley and Teresa James. She has recorded two CD'S; Stepping Stone and her latest CD, “Wild Hearts,” produced by Steve Postell (Immediate Family, David Crosby, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Iain Matthews), is filled with great songs, cool grooves, intimate, smart lyrics and some of the best of the best musicians in Los Angeles today including; Mike Finnigan (organ, piano), Hutch Hutchinson, Abe Laborial Sr., Alphonso Johnson (bass), Russ Kunkel, Michael Jerome Moore, John Ferraro, Arno Lucas (drums, percussion), Joe Sublett (Saxophone) and Maxayne Lewis and Clydene Jackson (background vocals). Each song has a soulful delivery with an undeniable down-home elegance. It has received great reviews by Patrick Simmons (Doobie Brothers), Maria Muldaur, Walter Trout, David Mansfield (T Bone Burnett), Leland Sklar, Mike Finnigan and Doug Macleod to name a few.
